Making your own artwork can be rewarding and satisfying, especially if your kids can help you out to. We’ve come up with a great craft that both you and the kids will love to do. The Letter Canvas is a fun, easy way to experience art and a great way to brighten up a bedroom and give it a personal touch!
Tips: You can add texture to your canvas by using short, sharp brush strokes when painting the background.
Let the first layer of paint dry then apply more paint on top of colours and repeat again.
Try drawing other animals- each canvas you make can have a different furry friend!
What you need:
- Micador Stretched Canvas 12”x12”
- Micador Acrylic Paint Essentials Pack
- A Micador Essential pencil for sketching
- Roymac Future Brush flat size 4
- Micador Lotus Paint Palette
- Micador Stay Anywhere Permanent Pen
Step-by-step
Step 1: Start with colour
Start by painting your canvas with a base colour, using a wide brush. This will be the main canvas colour so match it to your design. If you’re making the canvas for a boy, maybe use a blue base, or for a girl, pink. Now allow the paint to dry.
Step 2: Your design
When the base colour is dry, use a pencil to sketch the letter of your choice onto the canvas. We think it’s a nice idea to paint the first letter of your child’s name. Then draw the cat using the steps provided.
Step 3: Bring it to life
Start adding more colour to your canvas. You can now add more interest to your background, or just colour in your letter and the cat. Use different shades of colours to create light and dark areas.
Step 4: It's in the detail
Allow the paint to dry before adding detail using a Micador Stay Anywhere Permanent Pen. Draw a face on the cat and don’t forget the whiskers!
Step 5: Drying time
Once the canvas is completely dry you can go over the paint, adding more layers or texture or shading. Once you’re happy with the finished product, display it for all to see!
