Watersoluble Oil Pastel pear artwork

Create beautiful artwork with oil pastels that turn into amazing watercolours.

What you need:

  • Roymac Rains Watercolour Paper
  • Micador Large Oil Pastels Watersoluble 24s
  • Roymac Achiever Round size 6

Step-by-step

Step 1: Your design

Start with a light Yellow Ochre colour to plot in the shape of the pear onto the paper. Once the shape is there you can start to build up the tone- lighter on the light side and heavier on the shadowed side.

Step 2: Blending colours

Add a lighter yellow now to bring out the shape and then introduce a darker colour like orange, feathering it into the yellows already down. Red can also be used to accentuate the curves of the pear.

Step 3: Watercolour

Now wet the brush and start to wash in the pastels on the paper, turning them into beautiful watercolours.

Step 4: Create depth

You can now take a deeper colour like purple or blue and continue to add shading to the pear. This will give the shape even more depth. Using a dry pastel over wet paper provides interesting textual effects.

Step 5: Brighten it up

Using a colour like a light blue will help to brighten up the tones. You can then take the brush and blend the colours into one another again.
