Super-sweet and hard to miss, these paper heart flakes will be a bright surprise for your Valentine.

Step

Step 1:

Start with a piece of paper 10cm square. Completely cover the surface with watercolour paint, use any colour you like. You could even use multiple colours.
Step

Step 2:

Fold the square in half, left to right. With the fold on the left hand side, draw the right half a heart shape as pictured. Leave the paper folded and cut along the lines.
Step

Step 3:

Unfold your heart. Using the centre fold as a guide, load the circle ‘love’ stamp with ink and press into the centre of your heart.
Step

Step 4:

Fold your heart again so that the colours are facing out. Using scissors, follow the curve of the stamp impression and cut out little snippets of paper.
Step

Step 5:

Fold over the top corner of your heart, cut out a wavy line then unfold the corner.
Step

Step 6:

Fold in the side of the heart, snip out little triangle shapes then unfold the side.
Step

Step 7:

Fold up the bottom point of your heart, cut out a triangle shape then unfold the bottom.
Step

The big reveal!

Unfold to reveal your completed heart flake! Now that you have the hang of it, try making a few and then string them together with twine to create a garland. Use different combinations of watercolours and stamps, and try cutting into your heart at different angles or with different shapes. Have fun!
